Ache
So another poetry day. This poem is dedicated to all those who are trapped in abusive relationships. Know you're not alone and if need help, please seek it.
Remember to come back on Thursday for the book review of C.J. Archer's "The Medium."
Ache
It starts small.
You say, “Stay with me tonight.”
I do even though I’ve plans.
I stay because I want to be with you.
Then insidious words slide out of your mouth.
You say, “You’re only beautiful to me,
no one else thinks you’re beautiful.”
From there you start controlling me.
I’m not allowed to see my friends and family.
You say, “No one loves you but me,” or
“They don’t love you, since you hurt them,
but I love you despite your shortcomings.”
Aches bloom with the bruises you inflict on my soul.
You press on the bruises until they become wounds.
They ache and bleed while you laugh and grin at my pain.
You say, “You deserve this because if you hadn’t done what you did,
I wouldn’t have to do this.”
Finally with shaking courage I leave you.
The wounds ache as they slowly heal.
Even when they do heal the scars ache all the time.
