The Agency
Welcome to another installment of organizations in our world. Pervious installments are for The Society and The Hunter’s Association. There’s one more in this series coming out next week called Intelligence.
The Agency started in the late 1500s and early 1600s. At this point Society men began to change from men of action to men of leisure and were no longer interested in hunting demons. In order to stop this trend, multiple younger sons of the Society elite started the Agency. This took place all over the world but each country’s version was local and not unified worldwide. Originally, their jobs were to take complaints about “witches” and demons from other Society members. They didn’t take the complaints from anyone else (see: Hunter’s Association). By the late 1700s an expansion of what was included in an eradication program grew to include all paranormals. At this time, lower Society members or trusted employees were allowed to dispose of bodies or other similar jobs. In the mid-1800s Intelligence broke from the Agency. Also at this time skilled members of the general populace were invited into the Agency. By the early 1900s they were incorporated into local governments and magical contracts were added.
Magical contracts are contracts similar to Non-disclosure agreements. The difference is the magical aspect. This aspect will stop people from talking by ending their lives. This comes up in Death in a Headlock (forthcoming), Demons Among Us, and Defeated Demons (forthcoming).
All three books explore the issue of the magical contract in different ways. In the first there is a conflict between Selena Kyle and Kalea Hywel (Cat’s oldest daughter) about where Bryce can be found or phone number to contact him. In the second book, Selena’s expression of regret when she sees Cat is because she can’t tell Cat about her daughter’s search for her. In the last book the lives of the characters are on the line due to magical contracts.
The Agency is the location of Demons Among Us, and Defeated Demons (forthcoming). What you have (hopefully) read in the first book comes into play in the second. Defeated Demons is where the Flowers and Bones with Tick Tock, and Bryce’s team meet and will need to work together in order to overcome issues in the Society, Intelligence, and the Agency.
We hope you have enjoyed this sneak peek into the third organization of our world. Join us next week for the last installment on the organizations.
