Christine Pope’s Chosen

Last week I mentioned this wasn’t going to be my typical genre. Dystopian is not a genre I would pick up and read. However, I found this book to be like I.A. Ashcroft’s, not a book to be put down.

I loved the main character’s reactions and how she dealt with the end of the world, in New Mexico. Many people died including her family and the effect on her is great. This is a romance story as well and it was well done with moments of tension rising because they didn’t jump into bed immediately (for more on this topic see the blog post “What is Romance?”). The hero was a fully believable person in his own right even if we don’t truly understand him until the end of the book. Spoiler it’s a cliff hanger. If dystopian blending with fantasy is something that peaks your interest, I would recommend Chosen. This first book of the Djinn Wars is free in the Gods and Mortals anthology.

Pope’s other works include The Witches of Cleopatra Hill series, The Gaian Consortium series, Tales of the Latter Kingdom series, and the Watchers series. Ms. Pope can be found on her website here: http://www.christinepope.com/ or Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/Christine-Pope/e/B004V141H2 .

Next week’s book is going to be interesting for me. I have read retellings of the Greek gods in the form of Percy Jackson series and the Lost Heroes Series. Eva Pohler’s book The Gatekeeper’s Sons appears to be a romance between a mortal and Hades. This has all the markings of an interesting twist.
