Family

We’re sorry neither of us has posted in over a month. Z has been involved in a move and I (Mae) have been involved in the beta process sending out and receiving feedback. The process is going well and we are working on the next draft of the next book in our series. Today’s topic is family. We are both family orientated people.

We bring this topic up because of a situation we have both heard of where grandparents are treated as commodities. They’re free babysitting and inexpensive places to feed their grandchildren. I’ll be frank here. Grow the heck up people! If you have children don’t view your parents as an effing commodity. While some of your parents can afford it, some can’t. When you treat other human beings as a commodity, it’s a form of abuse. No, I won’t apologize for stating that.

You treat others as if they’re there for your use only not caring if your children strip your parents bare of food or money, they need for taxes or food or bills. You don’t call ahead, and you don’t treat them with any sort of respect. You don’t invite them to spend time with their grandchildren for their birthdays or holidays. Instead, you state they don’t love their grandchildren if they don’t drop their own plans for you and don’t let them talk to or see those grandchildren for six months or a year. Multiple religions and cultures state we should look after and honor our parents. If you are emotional abusing or blackmailing your parents for your own edification then why do you have children? Do you know they are watching you for how to treat you when they are grown and you are old? Is this the type of behavior you would like aimed at you? We can do better than that.

Family is a major topic in our series. We have made family in Demons Among Us, and in Flowers and Bones (will be available in late November or early December) we are dealing with the grief of losing family. Our characters deal with a lot of heavy issues and its’ family that carries them through. Treat your family as the treasure it is and not a commodity there for you to use and toss away.
