The Society
The Demons and Deities series takes place in our world, but a parallel or alternate reality to the one we all know. While there are similarities, there are a number of distinct and important differences. One example of similarities and differences are monarchies and government heads. In the books, both Japan and the British Isle are functioning monarchies and not constitutional ones and each country in the British Isles has their own, powerful monarch.
In the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand traditional leadership roles are in place but under the control of The Society. In all countries, The Society made sure they were allowed to practice their own laws without reprise from any nation, and each Society made their own. They were given equal status for helping keep the monarchies afloat during turbulent times, and places like the United States wrote their laws into the constitution, same as slave holders. (Yes, our Constitution does give into slaveholder rights go read it here: http://constitutionus.com/ ) Unlike our constitution, The Society laws cannot be amended but the country. Its most powerful members maintain the rights to amend their laws at will, which doesn’t occur often considering most Societies found the balance of laws they prefer during the Victorian era or earlier.
In the world of Demons and Deities, The Society is an ancient worldwide organization that holds wealth, power, and status above all else. It is possible to have all three and not be a member of the Society as is the case of the Asher family in Demons Among Us. They have the wealth, the power, the status, and the desire to stay away from the corruption within. They are members of high society, but not The Society.
To be or become a member, certain criteria must be met. A minim amount of wealth someone can have is the equivalent of ten million American dollars, to maintain status in, or invited into, the Society. You cannot claim bankruptcy and maintain your status. Just as you cannot not truly fall from Society graze and maintain status without approval by those in the highest rankings. There is a reason Bryce tends to forget his place. In his mind, he has lost that grace.
Over the course of the series, we will be exploring what happens in this world and the first taste is already out, in the form of Demons Among Us. If you would like to learn more please get the book and don’t forget to review.
Thank you all and we hope you enjoy.
